A team from Skills Active recently travelled the country to host moderation forums for our highly-skilled pool lifeguard assessors.
Quality Solutions manager Wayne Schlemmer joined aquatics industry specialist Linda Dorrington and quality advisor Geeta Raman, travelling from south to north, and visiting eight towns and cities throughout May.
Skills Active's pool lifeguard assessor pool is largely made up of staff at pools and aquatic facilities who work with trainees completing our Pool Lifeguard qualifications.
The purpose of the moderation forums is to gather assessors together so that they can reinforce good practice, exchange ideas and knowledge, catch up on industry news, and ensure they are working consistently with their peers at other facilities.
It was great to see the high standard of assessment that is taking place around the country, says Wayne.
He noted that Skills Active was also thrilled able to run the moderation forums in person in 2021, after they were switched to virtual events last year.
"The pool lifeguard assessors conduct very important mahi in that they determine whether others have the skills and knowledge required to gain a nationally-recognised qualification and become pool lifeguards," he says.
"As you can imagine we want only the very best to look after our whānau at aquatic centres."
